The beauty of the ridge line separating the Inner and outer Seraj was first extolled by Penelope Chetwode, daughter of the commander in Chief of the British Army in India in 1931. There is a huge numbers of sinister cobra plants (Arasaema wallachiana), their purple-striped sheaths curving over like cobras about to strike. The whole of this area is used to be a haunt of the most beautiful species of the Himalayan pheasant: the green and purple Monal and the red-crested Tragopan.
